Aren't we supposed to be examples?
This seemingly small incident happened in Ramadhan.
Might be quite some time ago so there'll be bits and pieces missing but the main part is still fresh in mind. Truly worth pondering upon.
Me and my father are rushing home and we had to stop at Carrefour to do grab some necessities. And so we went. It was very near to the breaking fast time so we went to the juice booth inside the hypermarket before continuing our shopping. The booth was operated by the hypermarket's staff : a young Chinese lady, which seemed to be in her early 20s.
It's time for iftar so me and father had our juice there. A moment later, one man, around my father's age I think, came with his wife. At that point, the Chinese lady (more appropriately girl i suppose. she's real young) was catering for another customer's order. This man, without hesitating or considering what that girl was doing, tapped the juice container, indicating that he wanted that one (it was soya juice i think). The girl tried to show that she's preparing the other customer's order but (I'm not sure whether his hearing is fine or not) he kept on tapping rudely on the container and insisting that he's fasting and thus needed that juice to break his fast. (others are not fasting lah?) The girl didn't say anything, She just quickly finishes the other customer's order and catered for that man's demand. When she nicely asked whether he wanted ice or not, again the attitude came. I can't quote (forgot the exact words) but his reply is certainly rude, insisting that the girl just quickly prepare his order because he wants to break his fast.
Our (me, my father, HIS wife, and some other people there) reaction? Stunned.
I couldn't even bring myself to look at him though i was immediately beside him.
When he left, (with his too-embarassed-to-speak-or-smile wife) my father's first words were : Kalau macam ni la, macam mane Muslims nak jadi contoh to non-muslims..?
I can't agree more.
A: he's rude to the girl
B: he's rude to the other customer which is being served by the girl
C: he's making everyone there sick of his behaviour!
To me, I just don't see the logic : He repeatedly mentioned that he's fasting yet does not fasting promotes patience? And does not Islam asks us to be polite to each other no matter to whom ? (especially to non-Muslim i think..for dakwah reason perhaps? or am I on the wrong track? correct me if I'm wrong)
Maybe he thought he'll die if he breaks fast a few minutes later than the supposed time.
Maybe there is some unknown rule that breaking fast is our upmost priority, pushing away the fact that you are being rude to people.
What i AM sure of : we totally do NOT need that kind of people in this planet.
